However, Hamilton asked the council if there was money from this current fiscal year that was not spoken for, since the WPBA players would need the money in a couple of months. Normally, requests for LOST funds made in January for the following fiscal year’s budget, which in this case would be the 2023-2024 fiscal year. Specifically, he asked for $1,000 in Local Option Sales Tax, which would go toward the paying for a shuttle bus to and from the airports in Des Moines and Cedar Rapids, as well as transportation within Fairfield, such as to and from their hotels and to grocery stores. During Monday’s council meeting, Hamilton told the council about all of the expenses the players incur during their travels, and asked the council for money to defray the players’ transportation costs.
